157,000 hectares, who 63,02 % are agricultural lands, 21,48 % - town and residential areas, 1,73 % - industry companies and roads, and 8,63 % and of other designation.

Population:

46,700 inhabitants, of who 99% are Lithuanian, 0,5 % - Russian, 0,5 % - of other descents.

Region facilities:

12 sub districts, 15 post offices, a bus station and a railroad junction, a motel, 5 pre-schools, a kindergarten-school, 35 elementary schools, 12 schools of basic education, 9 secondary schools, a gymnasium, a school of agriculture, 19 cultural centers, 17 Catholic churches, 7 museums, 18 archeological, historical, and cultural monuments, 39 health care facilities, 16 public stock companies, 148 closed stock companies, 662 individually owned companies, 157 agricultural enterprises, and 7 companies of other status.
