46,600 inhabitants, of who 37,2 % reside in towns and 62,8 % - in rural areas. Of the total, 47,5 % - men, and 52,5 % - women. Ethnic descent: 99 % are Lithuanian, 0,6 % - Russian, 0,1 % - Polish, 0,3 - of other descents.
